A Respectable Spirit

In response to John C. Maxwell's post 'For my friend, John Wooden' on 23 June 2010.

“Success is peace of mind, which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming.”
-John Wooden

Success is not measure by the amount of trophies and awards you won, but knowing that you did your best. He is a person that we should respect, his spirit, his attitude. Many people today pursue trophies and titles, many measures success by trophies and titles, not many realised that that is not all and living their life just for the trophies and at the end of the day they stop because they have achieved or they are discouraged. IF only they understand the quote above, they will be able to live their lives to the fullness and achieving the best that they can be.

Fighting for trophies and titles are not wrong, it serves as an incentive, a goal that people can work towards. It is not the destination, one must go beyond it. John Wooden probably look beyond it, trophies and titles cannot no longer satisfy him. He took pleasure in developing people and his wanted people to remember him as one who was 'kind and considerate of others.'

Though I only come to know his name through John C. Maxwell's blog, I respect him for this spirit and the things that he set his life for.
